The degassing silo is a post-treatment unit in the production of polyolefins such as polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP). Its primary function is to remove residual volatile monomers, solvents, and reaction by-products from polymer granules. This process is essential for ensuring product purity, production safety, and compliance with environmental regulations.
In bulk-solids handling systems, the degassing silo is used to extract hazardous gases emitted from stored materials, including volatile olefins like cyclohexane, octene, and ethylene. It helps maintain a safe working environment and supports downstream processes.

For discharge without degassing, funnel flow silos with cone opening angles > 55° may be used.
For simultaneous degassing and discharge, mass flow silos with cone opening angles < 55° are required.
